‘EXHIBITION NOW’ - 'Everything but the Kitchen Sink' 

This is part of my Art Practice module where we had to choose somewhere on campus to exhibit work that we make in response to the space.

This is in our staff kitchen where my work is sculptural, the space was unused and this is what we worked on. Showing our objects that we chose to be impossible or merely unable to be used.

Mine is playing on a memory of a friend I live with whose dinner was lost in the sink, the colander was useless and her food went through all the holes in the colander, I wanted to however make it look decorative and involve a textile element so this is what i responded with.

It was produced during the 2 weeks we had to choose a space and respond so it was meant to test our creativity and imagination to produce a thoughtful piece of work in a short piece of time in a large group, coming up with a space, a theme and display them all together compromising and helping one another.

Some transfer printing I did a while back with designs from the cornish china clay project I am currently working on. I painted the pattern onto paper with disperse dyes then, using the heat press, printed the pattern onto my 2 choices of synthetic fabric; polyester chiffon and sateen. I really like this effect and the bright and bold colours it creates. I do think the colours are very block though and so the patterns will need to be simple.
